About This Product

The Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit is purpose-built to address a major flaw in the 6.7L Cummins engine that can result in total engine destruction. The problem lies in the electrical connection to the intake grid heater. When powering the grid heater, 200 amps pass through a small bolt and nut inside the intake and, over time, is known to deteriorate and eventually arc and break off. This nut drops into the engine, leading to extensive damage to the piston, head, and valves. Several solutions are currently on the market addressing this issue, but they are costly upgrades. They drastically reduce the heat available to the engine and typically require tuning, or they don't work well in cold climates. This kit upgrades that flawed electrical circuit by eliminating the problematic bolts and nuts inside the intake while retaining the stock functionality of the heater, and it is cost-effective and easy to install.

What problem does the Killer Grid Heater Kit solve?

The Killer Grid Heater Kit eliminates the factory grid heater stud and nut that can loosen, overheat, melt, and potentially fall into the engine. This failure has been known to cause catastrophic damage, especially to cylinder 6. The kit upgrades the entire power connection path to prevent this risk altogether.

How does this kit prevent engine damage?

Instead of relying on a small stud and nut located inside the intake, this kit replaces that connection with a larger M8 bolt secured from the top of the grid heater. This removes loose hardware from inside the intake and significantly reduces heat buildup at the electrical connection.

Will I lose cold-start performance if I install this?

No. The Killer Grid Heater Kit allows the factory grid heater to operate at full output (2400W), unlike heater deletes or coil-style heaters that produce much less heat. You keep stock cold-start performance with added reliability.

Does this require tuning or cause check engine lights?

No. This kit does not require tuning and will not trigger grid heater–related fault codes such as P2609 (Low Grid Heater Current).

Is this emissions compliant?

Yes. Because the factory grid heater remains fully functional and no tuning is required, the kit is emissions compliant and suitable for vehicles in emissions-tested areas.

What vehicles is this kit compatible with?

This kit fits 2007.5–2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks equipped with the 6.7L Cummins diesel engine.

How difficult is the installation?

Installation is similar to replacing the grid heater plate and typically adds about 30 minutes to that process. No cutting, drilling, or vehicle modifications are required. Total install time is approximately 3 hours.

Does the kit include all required hardware?

Yes. The kit includes all necessary replacement hardware, including upgraded busbars, fasteners, and insulating components.

What makes this better than deleting the grid heater?

Deleting or disconnecting the grid heater can cause hard cold starts, reduced fuel efficiency, and fault codes. This kit allows you to keep the factory heater operating safely at full power without the risk of hardware failure.

How does this compare to aftermarket intake horns or heater relocation kits?

The Killer Grid Heater Kit is a cost-effective alternative to intake horn replacements or relocation kits, offering maximum efficiency by keeping the heater close to the engine. It eliminates dangerous internal hardware while maintaining a near-stock appearance and requiring no tuning.

Is this safe for trucks used in extreme cold climates?

Yes. This kit is ideal for trucks that regularly operate in cold conditions and rely on a properly functioning intake heater for reliable starting, reduced emissions, and improved drivability.

What materials are used to prevent corrosion and loosening?

The upper copper busbar is tin-plated and the lower steel busbar is zinc-plated for corrosion resistance. The lower busbar features self-locking threads designed to prevent loosening from heat cycling and vibration.

Will this affect drivability or performance?

No negative effects. This kit is designed purely as a reliability upgrade and does not change engine performance or drivability.

What warranty is included?

The Killer Grid Heater Kit includes a 1-year parts warranty.
